A compact pedal chain for a mono signal: drive into a tone filter into a feedback delay. It is the classic starter pedalboard in one small panel, and a simple, readable example of a complete effect.
The idea
The order is fixed and nothing is hidden between the stages. The tone filter sits after the drive, because that is where a tone control does the most work: it shapes the harmonics the drive has just created, rather than filtering the input before they exist. The delay comes last, so the repeats carry the driven, filtered sound.
Controls
- Drive sets how hard the signal hits the saturation curve. Low settings are close to a clean boost.
- Dist Mix blends the driven signal with the clean one, so you can keep some grit under a clear tone.
- Tone is a low-pass filter from 200 Hz to 8 kHz.
- Time spaces the repeats from 20 ms, for slapback, up to one second.
- Feedback sets how much of each repeat feeds back. It stops at 0.9, so the delay can build and sing at the top of its range without running away.
- Delay Mix is the level of the repeats against the dry signal.
- Level is the final output trim.
Getting started
Play a guitar or another mono source through FX Mini. The default settings give a light drive with a quarter-second echo. For slapback, shorten Time and lower Feedback; for a long, singing tail, raise Time and Feedback together.
