Capture Player

Play NAM captures, A1 or A2, in your browser.

About

Capture Player plays NAM (.nam) amp and pedal captures, both A1 and A2, in your browser. Load a capture, then play the built-in guitar take, a DI file of your own or a live guitar input through it.

How it works

A capture is a trained model of a real amp, pedal or full rig. Capture Player checks the file, keeps it in this browser and runs it on your signal. Your captures are never uploaded, and the module only remembers which capture you chose, not the file itself.

Before it plays, the player shows what the file holds: its generation (A1 or A2), its size, the sample rate it was made at, any levels it records, and the creator as the file states them. You can also record the licence the creator chose for the capture.

Controls

  • Input sets how hard your signal drives the capture, up to 24 dB either way.
  • A2 size switches an A2 capture between its Lite and Full versions. Lite uses less processing power.
  • Level match brings the capture back to roughly the level of a normal DI signal, so a louder capture does not win every comparison.
  • Mix blends the capture with your dry signal, useful for drive and pedal captures.
  • Output sets the final level. A built-in safety stage keeps hot signals from clipping the output.

Getting started

Load a .nam file and start with Capture, level matched. Parallel blend mixes in your dry signal, Drive harder and Clean up change how hard you hit the capture while keeping the level close, Pedal into amp turns level matching off so a boost or drive capture keeps the gain that pushes whatever comes after it, and Lite size, lower CPU picks the lighter A2 version.

There is no cabinet stage yet. Full-rig captures already include a speaker; amp-only captures are meant to have a cabinet after them. Capture Player currently runs in the browser only; plugin and pedal support are planned.

NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) is an open-source project by Steven Atkinson. Maru is not affiliated with the Neural Amp Modeler project or with TONE3000.

How it works.

Audio enters the module's mono input, passes an input trim, then the capture, run by the open-source NAM engine compiled to WebAssembly inside an AudioWorklet.

A dry/wet mix, the capture's level-match gain and an output trim follow. The capture is checked, hashed and stored in this browser before it plays; the module state keeps only a reference to it.
