How it works

This object can carry concrete values or a musical interpretation, depending on its notation.

Ways to write this concept

Each notation describes the same underlying object. Open an example to see it in every other notation, or load it to hear one MIDI realization in the Code Sequencer.

Named grid layouts with predefined interval patterns

interval for the 3 directions of the hexagonal grid. We use the PLR letters for the 3 directions (P=up-right, L=up-left, R=right), along with a positive or negative int. The lattice closes: L = P - R (parseHexLayout).

Comma or slash separated interval values for right, up-right, up-left

JSON array notation for the three interval values

Labeled axes notation with x, y, z for the three directions

Choose Load beside a convertible example to open its live player. Some catalog formats describe analysis or a display label and have no note realization yet.
Sources and playback

Concept descriptions and examples were adapted from Maru Mono’s typed catalog and concept examples. The Code Sequencer plays MIDI through a connected instrument; Symbolic does not synthesize sound.
