Mix Terrain

Review a finished song as a 3D spectral terrain with loudness, sections and mixing findings.

What it does

Mix Terrain turns a finished song into a 3D landscape you can fly over: frequency runs across, time runs from front to back, and level is height. It helps you review a mix by eye and ear, pointing to places worth a closer listen and showing the measurements behind each one.

How to read it

Low frequencies are on the left and highs on the right; the song starts at the front corner where 0:00 meets 20 Hz. A thin cross-section marks the playhead as the song plays. Mix Terrain analyses the whole file at once, so it is a review tool, not a live meter.

Colour adds a second reading. By default the hue shows frequency and the richness shows level, so loud areas stand out and quiet ones look pale. The Color by menu can switch to short-term loudness, peak contrast and other views, and three palettes, Mineral, Dawn and Night, change the look. Height always shows level.

The review

The Review panel lists what the analysis found, in two groups:

  • Level checks: true peaks near the ceiling, samples close to full scale, and DC offset.
  • Listening cues: tonal balance, narrow peaks, stereo differences in the low end, sub energy and changes in loudness.

Select an item to fly the camera to it and see the measured value, the threshold it crossed and what it might mean. Listen here starts playback a second before it, for context. The cues are suggestions to check by ear, not verdicts: a sustained musical note can trigger a resonance cue, and a clean review does not mean the mix is finished.

Good to know

Section markers are estimates, and the frequency-region labels (Sub, Bass, Mids and so on) name ranges, not instruments. Findings are measured against the track's own balance rather than against a reference mix.
