Reverb

Algorithmic room reverb with bounded feedback.

A stage of OSC-1. It works the same on its own page as it does in the chain, same parameters, same paths.

About

A simple algorithmic room reverb with three controls, meant for the end of a chain where a room belongs. It is a classic comb-and-allpass design, not a convolution reverb, and it does not pretend to model a measured space.

Controls

  • Room Size sets the length of the tail, from a small booth to a large hall.
  • Damping sets how quickly the tail loses its top end. Higher values sound darker and more absorbent.
  • Mix blends the reverb with the dry signal (default 30%).

The rings and strokes on the face illustrate the settings; they are not a measurement of the decay time or the size of a room.

Getting started

Reverb Stage is an audio effect: play a recording through it or connect an input. Start from the Default preset, then raise Room Size for a longer tail and Damping to keep it from getting bright.

How it works.

The canonical graph runs four parallel damped feedback combs into two serial Schroeder allpasses. Room Size changes the feedback decay, Damping controls high-frequency loss inside the feedback paths, and Mix blends that wet return with the input. The same restricted-TypeScript graph runs in the shared browser engine on this page and is compiled for plugin export.

This is the cheapest honest reverb there is, and it is not the algorithm Space Mini will ship. Room Size maps to tail length and Damping to a low-pass on the tail; there are no early reflections and no modulation in the tail.

What would you make with Reverb?

Describe what you want to make. Build it with the Studio agent.

Goes well with.

Prototype

A complete synth built from separate modules.

Prototype

Convolution reverb: eight synthesized spaces, twenty-five real cabinets.

Building block

A bounded feedback delay for repeats and ambience.
