Play a MIDI file into an instrument. Load a Standard MIDI File (.mid) in a rack, connect the player's MIDI output to a synth, and press Play. The notes are timed against the audio itself, so playback stays steady even when the page is busy.
Controls
- Play starts and stops the file. Stopping releases any notes that are still held, so nothing hangs.
- Loop repeats the file from the start when it reaches the end.
Choose the file with the file picker beside the player, either from your computer or from your library. A rack saves a reference to the file, not the file itself.
Channels and tracks
The player has one MIDI output carrying every note, and each note keeps the MIDI channel it had in the file. Connect it straight to an instrument to hear everything on one sound, or put a MIDI Channel Router after it to send each channel to its own instrument. Note that tracks and channels are not the same thing: one track in a MIDI file can use several channels.
Limits
For now the player plays notes only. Sustain pedal, other controller messages, program changes and pitch bend are ignored. It does not accept type 2 MIDI files, files over 256 KB, files with more than 50,000 notes, or songs longer than six hours.
