Drive

Add harmonics with a waveshaper.

A stage of OSC-1. It works the same on its own page as it does in the chain, same parameters, same paths.

About

A simple waveshaping distortion with a wet/dry mix. It adds harmonics to whatever you send it, from a clean boost to a nearly square-wave collapse.

The idea

Drive pushes the signal into a smooth clipping curve and blends the result with the untouched signal. Because the clean path runs alongside the driven one, you can melt the body of a sound while keeping its attack intact: the classic parallel-distortion trick. It is a curve, not a model of any particular pedal or circuit.

Controls

  • Amount sets how hard the signal hits the curve. Low settings are a clean boost; near the top the waveform is mostly square.
  • Mix blends the driven sound against the clean one.

A small signal-path diagram on the panel shows the two parallel paths.

Getting started

Drive is a mono audio effect: play a guitar, a microphone or any recording through it. Try the presets Warm Glue, Parallel Thicken, Overdrive, Fuzz and Edge Blend, then adjust Amount and Mix.

How it works.

The wet path uses the exact rational curve y=((1+k)x)/(1+k|x|), with k=Amount*100, evaluated through fixed 4x interpolation/FIR oversampling; a separate dry path and the wet path sum at the stage output.

This is a curve, not a circuit model. It is not a simulation of a particular pedal and does not claim to be one.

What would you make with Drive?

Describe what you want to make. Build it with the Studio agent.

Goes well with.
