A deliberately small sampler used as a reference. It plays short built-in sounds from MIDI and exists so the same sampler can be compared across Maru's module format and a conventional JUCE implementation. It is a developer tool rather than an instrument for everyday use.
What it does
All of its sounds are generated, not recorded: fourteen short drum, tone, pad and noise recipes packed into one mono sample table that ships inside the module. It loads no files and needs no downloads.
The controls choose a window of that table and how it plays:
- Asset Start and Asset End set which part of the table plays.
- Asset Gain and Level set the sample gain and the output level.
- Source Rate sets the rate the table is read at, which changes its pitch and length.
- Loop repeats the selected window while a note is held.
- Attack and Release shape each note.
The display on the face shows where the start and end settings sit over the table's sound regions. It is a map, not a waveform or a playhead.
Programs
Seven programs set the controls to a starting point, beginning with One-shot drum and Looped pad with release. Some program names describe sampler features, such as velocity layers, key zones, stereo microphones or choke groups, that this simple version does not play; when the host reports which program is loaded, the face lists what it leaves out.
Limits
One mono table, no file loader, no stereo and no layer mixer.
