PitchRead turns a short audio clip into MIDI. Give it a recording, and it detects the notes, shows them over the waveform so you can check them by ear and eye, and exports them as a MIDI file for your DAW. Everything runs locally on your computer.
How it works
Choose an example, upload or drop a clip, or record from your audio input. PitchRead transcribes it automatically and shows the result as a piano roll lined up with the waveform on the same timeline. Press Play to hear the original and the detected notes together, played through an instrument of your choice.
A vertical fader blends between the Audio and the MIDI. Slide it while playing to compare what was recorded with what was detected; the playback position never jumps. It also responds to the mod wheel (CC 1).
Click the note plot to cycle between Notes, Spectrogram and Notes + spectrogram. The spectrogram shows the audio's energy behind the notes, which helps you see why a note was or was not detected. Its harmonics are part of the sound, not extra notes.
Two converters
- Basic Pitch, by Spotify, handles overlapping notes and chords. Its settings are onset threshold, frame threshold and minimum note length.
- Pitchy is a lightweight detector for a single voice or melody, such as humming, a solo line or a bass part. It needs no model download. Its settings are clarity, silence gate and minimum note length.
Changing a setting keeps the current notes until you press Transcribe again.
